Firefighters Fill the Boot for MDA

Aug. 22, 2014

A few firefighters were out in Charlottesville Friday, asking for donations to fill the boot.

It's part of a national campaign by the Association for Firefighters to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Charlottesville and surrounding fire departments were out in force at intersections with their boots in hand.

“MDA is active very locally, there is actually an MDA facility at Kluge,” said Kennon Snow with the Charlottesville Fire Department. “There are families here in the Charlottesville and surrounding areas that benefit from the funds that we raise. And over the past 15 years we've raised over $150,000.”

In the last six years, more than $630 million has been raised by the Association of Firefighters for muscular dystrophy research.
