Tickets for the 30th anniversary of First Night Virginia are on sale now online at FirstNightVA.org.
The event transforms the Downtown Mall into New Year's Even extravaganza with over 40 performances of music, magic, juggling, comedy and more, all finished off with the midnight ball drop.
First Night Virginia 2012 is also the kick-off event for the City of Charlottesville’s 250th Anniversary.
“We are thrilled to be celebrating the 30th anniversary of this great community event, and are very excited about this year’s stellar lineup of entertainment,” said president Drake Van de Castle. “First Night continues to be an affordable, family-friendly celebration of the arts, and we hope that people will take advantage of the significant discounts we’re offering during the month of November.”
First Night Virginia entertainment begins at 1 p.m. and runs until after the ball drop. Headliner Mark Nizer and his comedy juggling routine are back by popular demand. There will also be a Kid Fest with inflatables, face painting, juggling, Creation Station and more. Plus, the Virginia Discovery Museum is offering free admission with a First Night wristband from 1pm to 8pm.
Music lovers can look forward to disco from local group Groove Train, Motown and soul from Soul Transit Authority, rock n’ roll from the Gladstones, and much more.
“We are really excited about the range of amazing talent we have lined up for this year’s event,” said treasurer and entertainment coordinator Cindy Adams. “From music to dancing, puppets to improv, we really have something for everyone!”
One wristband will get you admission to all events. The cost for wristbands in advance during the month of November is $10 adults/$5 kids (children 5 and under are always free). From December 1-30 prices go up to $15 adults/$5 kids, then up to $18/$5 on December 31. On New Year’s Eve, wristbands can only be purchased at the Omni Hotel.
