First Night Virginia Gears Up For The New Year
Nearly ten thousand people are expected to celebrate the New Year on the Downtown Mall for First Night Virginia, Saturday.

Nearly ten thousand people are expected to celebrate the New Year on the Downtown Mall for First Night Virginia, Saturday. First Night Virginia organizers planned many activities throughout the day. The celebration begins with a 5K run which is hosted by the Charlottesville Running Company. The race begins and ends on the Downtown Mall.

Many musical artists are expected to perform in Charlottesville. Singer Carleigh Nesbit will perform with other local artists at the First United Methodist Church in Charlottesville. Charlottesville's local musical group Downbeat Project will also be performing Saturday at the Haven.

The Paramount Theater on the Downtown Mall is also hosting events for First Night Virginia. Comedian Bone Hampton and local juggler Mark Nizer will perform at the venue.

There will also be events for children to attend. The Children's Ballet Series presents the Nutcracker at the Key Recreation Center. Children can also enjoy the Barefoot Puppets performance at City Space. The Omni Hotel is hosting a Kids Fest event and afterwards the musical group The Gladstones will be performing.
The band Stringdusters will be performing at the Jefferson Theater, their show is sold out.

Families can also enjoy the Laser Hitz Laser Light Show on the Downtown Mall. Families can the University of Virginia and Auburn University play football in the Chick Fil-A Bowl on the big screen at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion.
