Flag Day Celebrations at Pavilion in Charlottesville

June 14, 2013

Flag Day celebrations were held at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion on Friday afternoon.

The annual celebration featured the Charlottesville Municipal Band.

Folks gathered to recognize local veterans and their families.

A special swearing-in ceremony was held for new recruits. The guest speaker, Brig. Gen. Flora Darpino, had a message for the recruits on what the flag should mean to them.

"To support and defend the Constitution. Which is the ideal that this great nation stands for. The same ideals that Jobe spoke about when he laid out to you what the flag for Flag Day represents...is a set of ideas."

Flag Day is not a federal holiday, though Pennsylvania recognizes it as a state holiday.
