The Fluvanna County School Board held an open meeting Thursday evening to discuss results of a survey given out to staff. About a hundred parents, teachers, staff and students showed up to the meeting to show their support.

The board has to recoup, somehow, over $300,000. Some of the things that are on the table as options to make that happen are having a four-day school week, eliminating varsity spring sports as well as secondary sports teams, closing area elementary schools such as Columbia and Palmyra, and eliminating transportation for kids to school everyday.

There were about a hundred parents, teachers and students concerned about the direction of the school district.

Anne Carter, mother of three children, says none of the options on the table are acceptable to her but she wants to have three Fluco graduates so something needs to happen in terms of the funding for the future of the school district.

"Whatever the school board decides to cut, how do we know if it will keep snowballing? When does the bleeding stop?" Brian Wilberger said, who has a first grade child.

Wilberger said he was disappointed with the turn-out at Thursday's meeting and doesn't think the community caught the board's attention. "This is going to take the whole community," he said. "This should be at the high school and we should have thousands of people here."

The school board will vote on all of the possible options at their monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 7th. Whatever options they choose will go into effect January 2, 2013.
