A Fluvanna County man formally announced his run Saturday morning for the board of supervisors.

Tony O'Brien announced his candidacy for the Rivanna District seat on the board at the Lake Monticello clubhouse. He's lived in the area for more than 20 years.

O'Brien said he's taking this opportunity to make a difference in the county's future, especially for the future of education.

He says he has the drive and support to win.

"We've got to make some investments into the future. We're going to grow. It's inevitable to a certain degree," O'Brien said. "But if we make the right choices, then we can grow in the right way. I think a lot of people might be focused on spending and cutting and those things, and that's important, but on the same token you can't cut your way into success."

O'Brien is running to replace Joe Chesser. There is also an open seat on the board from the Columbia District because Shaun Kenney will not seek re-election.
