Having a dog or cat run away is among a pet owner's worst fears, but the Fluvanna County SPCA may have a solution.

The FSPCA hosted a microchipping event Saturday morning. The microchips help identify dogs and cast that come in their doors.

If a pet is lost, its owners can be identified and contacted quickly. That way, the pet doesn't have to spend too much time in the shelter.

"This is part of our mission as a no-kill shelter, to be able to do things to increase and expand pet ownership, and microchipping is a good way to make sure the pet stays with their human," said Jennie Shuklis, executive director of the FSPCA.

The chips cost $25. Over the two-hour event, the FSPCA chipped 20 dogs and cats.
