Fluvanna County High School is recognized for its achievements in education, but it's also surrounded by controversy.
Budget talks between the school board and the county's board of supervisors have caused tension. The issue has even caused some students to protest.
"While I understand and appreciate their passion, I want their focus to be, being a student and thriving at Fluvanna County High School, looking to be career- and college- ready," Fluvanna County superintendent Gena Keller said.
School leaders say giving teachers furlough days was not an easy decision, but was just a way to balance the school system's budget.
"It's not a long-term solution at all, and it's not really even a solution for the short term," said Keller. "It's just what we have to do based on where we are with our budget."
Though there are many disagreements between the boards, officials say they are communicating.
"The dialogue continues and the dialogue has been actually pretty promising, and so I'm expecting that we will reach a solution on Tuesday," said Keller.
The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet on Tuesday. Citizens are hoping for a positive outcome.
