At a Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday night, Fluvanna County Supervisors discussed their dire five year financial outlook, calling the situation "sobering" and "a perfect storm".
"It's the five year plan and it just got dropped on us. We knew nothing about it. This is one of most important decisions the Board of Supervisors will ever make," said Samuel Patterson a Fluvanna Resident.
The board learned they will not be able to sustain their spending. In the outlook, the board found out they cannot afford any capital improvements and need to dramatically cut their budget.
.
Board members said they have tough decisions to make, and have no one to blame but themselves.
"The public has never gotten to participate in the decision making about this. Now the Board of Supervisors wants us to pay for their mistakes about the debt that we're in. $94 million of debt that we can't get out of and now they're asking us to bail them out of that decision," said Patterson.
Fluvanna County has only about 10,000 homes and the county owes millions. In order to fix the situation, Supervisors said they may have to raise taxes again. The board last raised taxes in 2010.
The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors will meet again on March 2.

There is a difference between "10,000 roof tops" in your video report and a "population of only 10,000 people" in your written report. Fluvanna County has over 25,000 residents. We may be small, but we're not that small. Just sayin'...
