Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, Inc. will add a fourth day to its food distribution schedule starting this coming Wednesday, September 11.
Margaret Burruss, Executive Director of Loaves & Fishes, says the pantry served 4,811 people in July, its highest monthly number ever.
“That was a 35 percent increase over July, 2012 and our final tallies from August will also be up”, said Burruss. “We averaged 3,955 clients served each month in the first half of 2013. That’s up 37 percent compared to the first half of 2012.”
Starting this week, the food pantry facility at 370-E Greenbrier Drive will be open to clients on Wednesdays from 2-4 PM. This adds a fourth day to the Loaves and Fishes’ current schedule of Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Burruss expressed gratitude that the generosity of donors, community business partners, and loyal volunteers has put the organization in a position take this step.
“We’re an organization of ‘neighbors nourishing neighbors’ and both volunteers and donors from all segments of the Charlottesville community have stepped up to make expansion of our service possible”, she noted.
Those interested in volunteering for any Loaves & Fishes activity should contact the organization at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 434-996-7868.
