A former Greene County Deputy Sheriff will spend the next two years in jail after pleading guilty Tuesday, April 8, to two felony counts of online solicitation of a minor.

Robert L. Beverage, 56, of Ruckersville, was sentenced in Greene County Circuit Court to two years of active incarceration with two additional years suspended for a period of 10 years.

Officials say Beverage will be on supervised probation upon his release from jail and be required to register as a sex offender.

An investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force revealed Beverage solicited and received at least eight graphic images depicting child pornography from an underage girl he had met in the course of his duties as a prisoner transport and court room security deputy.

State Police ICAC investigators arrested Beverage Oct. 2, 2013, on two felony counts of use of a communications system to facilitate certain offenses involving children.

Beverage had served more than 20 years with the Greene County Sheriff's Office.
