Former Charlottesville Mayor Arrested for Assault

A former Charlottesville mayor and city councilor was arrested for assault over the weekend.

Charlottesville Police say James Blake Caravati was arrested Friday at his home on Little High Street for misdemeanor assault. The victim was a family member.

At this time, authorities are not releasing any information on what led to the arrest.

Caravati, who has described himself as the "swing vote" on the Meadow Creek Parkway, served as Mayor of Charlottesville from 2000 to 2002. He was first elected to Charlottesville City Council in 1998.
