May is better hearing month and to celebrate, one local facility helped people to get their hearing checked for free.
Hearing Healthcare of Virginia hosted the event today from 9 AM to 2 PM. People needing to get their hearing checked were able to walk right in to their Albemarle Co. office and be seen.
One of the hearing specialist explained that there are serious health risks that stem from hearing loss.
“It increases our risk of falling, it increases the risk of dementia, it increases anxiety, depression, all of these other affects it has on our overall health,” says Jimmy Stewart, hearing specialist. “We just feel it's very important and we just want to do what we can to help folks.”
Stewart says over 45 million people in the U.S. are suffering from some type of hearing loss.
