A pair of friends at the University of Virginia are running, biking, raising money and doing community service all to make the most of their UVa. experience.
Back in December, friends Alex Shannon and Chris Zapple pledged to run and bike 2,013 miles, do 100 hours of community service and raise $2,000 for the Madison House, a student volunteering program on grounds.
They're getting down to their last hours and hope to be done with their goals by the end of next week, after the Charlottesville Marathon.
They say it's been fun to be physically active and active in the community, hoping to inspire others along the way.
"This morning we had 7 other people helping us out at the Haven - up at 6:45 in the morning, making breakfast and it was just great. We've done this every week, so it's neat to see how this has been built from just Chris and I, to a couple of friends and now a whole group of people helping out," said Alex Shannon a fourth-year student at UVa.
They've named their campaign 'Thankful for 2013' in honor of their friend and fellow student, Casey Schulman, who died in December.
"This year's been about doing whatever we want to do to really find these goals but it's not just about this year, it's about years down the road. There's always something to be thankful for," said Chris Zapple, a third-year student at UVa.
