After a year of record highs, December is seeing lower than usual gas prices.
Several gas stations are selling fuel for less than $3, like the Kroger station near Hydraulic and Route 29.
In Charlottesville, the average price per gallon is $3.11, down five cents from last week.
The current national average cost for a gallon of regular is $3.34.
AAA predicts drivers will end up paying the lowest gas prices of the year by New Year's Eve.
Drivers paid the highest prices at the pump ever in 2012.
