A gas scare evacuated and closed the Kroger grocery store on Emmet Street Friday afternoon.
Shortly after 5 p.m., crews responded to a call at the grocery store. Those on scene smelled an odor described as refrigerant gas. The Charlottesville Fire Department evacuated the store as a precaution.
The store remained closed into Friday night. Fire chief Charles Werner said the fire department had left the scene, but the store would remain closed so it could be ventilated.
Kroger is expected to reopen Saturday.

Charlottesville has two Kroger locations with an Emmet Street address: 1.) 1159 Emmet St. N 2.) 1904 Emmet St. N The first one is the Barracks Rd one. Remember that pretty much every business at the Barracks Rd Shopping Center has an Emmet St address. The second one is the one w/ the gas station.
