Meadowcreek golf course was slowly picking up today as the temperatures climbed. This change of season was the spark for local golfers.
"We had a rough winter, so certainly the warm temperatures are bringing people out, and we are trying to do all we can to prepare the course" said Tim Taylor, one of the assistant pros at Meadowcreek.
Tim also says that the greens are running great, and some golfers have played through the winter, but this is the first time they can play in a t-shirt. Meadowcreek has added many extra tees this year to cater to all golfers.
Birdwood golf course was open all winter... But this winter was a cold jolt of reality.
"The last two winters here in Central Virginia have been phenomenal, we pretty much haven't missed a day and have had tons of golfers, however the last few months have been hard on the golf course"
It’s not all doom and gloom: the winter does give the course an opportunity to develop some key new features.
"The grass isnt growing, so we can focus on other issues, just like our 14th hole here like when we did a remodel with the new stone retaining wall” stated golf pro Craig Volentine at Birdwood.
The renovations on the signature 14th hole will be playable in the next couple of weeks. This is Birdwood's 30th anniversary. They are celebrating by offering 30 days of free golf for new members. They are also having an event this weekend for anyone that can attend from 11am to 1pm with free food and free golf. All are welcome!
