July 20, 2013
The town of Gordonsville in Orange County celebrated its bicentennial on Saturday, July 20th.
The town was founded on February 2, 1813, and there was a celebration on February 2, 2013. But, as Gordonsville Mayor Bob Coiner puts it, the weather just isn't quite as nice in February as it is in July.
"We wanted a summertime event." says Coiner. "It's basically a homecoming picnic. People that grew up in Gordonsville who moved away have come back for this."
There were bands, food, bounce houses and pony rides, and the night finished off with a fireworks display.
The bicentennial took place at the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company Fairgrounds off East Baker Street. Everything was free and open to the public.
