Governor Terry McAuliffe announces a special election will be held to replace the congressional seat being vacated by Representative Eric Cantor.

The special election is scheduled for November 4th, the same day as the general election.

Gov. McAuliffe says this special election will make the transition as smooth as possible for Cantor's constituents, and will ensure the people of the 7th District will be represented during the lame duck session.

The governor also released a statement thanking Cantor for his years of service and his commitment to the Commonwealth.
