The Greene County School Board says their next superintendent has some big shoes to fill.
The deadline to apply for the superintendent position ended last week. The board received 23 applications from people interested in leading Greene's schools.
"Our board just is so invested in finding the right person who's going to come and make a difference in Greene County and make a lasting difference in Greene County," Greene County school board chair Michelle Flynn said.
Board members say they're looking a "bridge builder," someone able to form relationships and communicates well. Also, they're interested in someone who can advocate for what is best for Greene students.
"For our board, [he or she] also has to have a sense of humor," Flynn said. "It's been really important. Greene County is a small community. We, as a board, are very close, and we have a good time together. So we need someone who really has strong people skills."
Current superintendent David Jeck will leave on May 10.
The school board hopes to hire a new leader to begin by June 1.
