The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has been accepted as a member agency of the Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers Program as of Feb. 15.
The Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers Program is a community coalition comprised of numerous area businesses and local law enforcement representatives from the following jurisdictions: the Albemarle County Police Department, the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Charlottesville Police Department, the University of Virginia Police Department, the Wintergreen Police Department, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers receives absolutely no federal, state, or local funding. They are a 501-C3 non-profit group that is solely funded by community contributions.
The primary role of law enforcement within Crime Stoppers is to quickly and efficiently investigate tips, provide feedback to the coordinator on case status, and request more information when necessary. Citizens with information about criminal information may reach the Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers tip-line at (434) 977-4000.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is excited about this opportunity and we look forward to working with our new partners in the Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers Program.
