Grocery Store Donates 1,000 Hams to Families in Need

March 26, 2013

Giant Food donated two hundred hams to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank on Tuesday, just in time for Easter.

The Food Bank serves 25 counties and nine cities, and has distribution centers in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Winchester and Verona.

Organizers stressed the importance of the Food Bank, saying that hunger is still a problem across Virginia.

"Just after the first of the year our food donations decline and hunger doesn't decline," said Joseph Caputi, a branch manager with the Food Bank. "Hunger remains constant in our area.

Giant will deliver a total of 1,000 hams to the Food Bank this week.
