On Friday, construction began on the new upper school barracks at Fork Union Military Academy. Hundreds of people gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony.

Jacobson Hall will be 90,000 square-feet and will house 250 rooms. The new hall will replace the two existing barracks, Memorial Hall and Snead Hall.

The new space will help to expand the school by allowing more students to attend.

"There is definitely a need for an upgrade in these facilities. As a boarding school our facilities are absolutely vital to our mission, so we are very, very excited to have this day upon us," said Todd Giszack, the Assistant to the President of the school.

The project will not be completed for another year and a half.
