Group Celebrates Completion of Renovations to Housing Complex

June 13, 2014

The Community Housing Partners (CHP) is celebrating the completion of a major renovation to an affordable housing complex in Charlottesville.

The $15 million renovations were on the Greenstone on 5th apartments, formally known as Blue Ridge Commons.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday, June 13.

They say the overhaul of the apartments is an important part of making the apartment units feel more like a home.

"What home means to a family,” says Janaka Casper, with CHP. “It’s the launching pad of everything that they do. From going to school and getting an education you need a really great place to come home to and be able to do your homework. If you are going to be employed in the community, it’s where jobs come at night and lay their heads."

The renovations made the apartment units more energy efficient, made several units handicap accessible, and included a new community center for residents.
