Group Raises Domestic Violence Awareness in Charlottesville

Oct. 1, 2013

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and the local Shelter for Help in Emergency (SHE) is trying to raise awareness in Charlottesville.

SHE took over the Freedom Wall on the Downtown Mall on Tuesday afternoon, getting the word out about the events they will be holding this month. The organization aims to teach people how they can help stop domestic violence.

About 25 percent of women experience domestic violence at some point in their lives.

"A lot of people are victims and are afraid to say, so I feel like if we can raise the awareness then we will be able to talk about it more and help those victims and those people that are near and dear to them," says SHE Volunteer Coordinator Robin Goldstein.
