There was a peaceful demonstration outside of Old Cabell Hall during Secretary of State John Kerry's arrival on Wednesday.
University of Virginia students joined members of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network to send a message this morning to Kerry, not to approve the Keystone oil pipeline. The group held up held a banner and signs to get their message across from across the lawn at UVa.
"The Tar Sands Pipeline connect to the second biggest carbon source and carbon sink in the whole planet; if we tap into that and we start refining the tar sands oil, It'll be game over for the climate," said protester Emily Heffing.
The group did yell out their message as Kerry walked by, but there were no major disruptions.
