Harrisonburg Judge Puts Gay Marriage Case on Hold

April 1, 2014

A federal judge has put one lawsuit challenging Virginia's gay marriage ban on hold while another makes its way through the appeals process.

U.S. District Judge Michael Urbanski noted that the two same-sex couples who filed the lawsuit in Harrisonburg have been allowed to join a similar case in Norfolk. That case is scheduled to be heard next month by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Judge Urbanski says that means no further proceedings are necessary in the Harrisonburg court.

The judge in the Norfolk case originally ruled that Virginia's gay marriage ban is unconstitutional.
