RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The head of the Virginia Board of Education is concluding his statewide listening tour with stops in central Virginia.

Board President David Foster will begin a two-day visit on Thursday to schools in the region that includes 15 school divisions. The stops will take place in Colonial Heights.

Officials say the tour is designed to give parents, teachers, local school board members, administrators and others an opportunity to express their views on issues facing the state's public schools.

The board is responsible for setting public school policies, including curriculum and accountability standards, and licensure requirements for educators.

With the visit, Foster will fulfill his commitment to visit Virginia's eight educational administrative regions by the end of the year. He's been joined by a fellow board member on each stop.
