Hispanic Health Fair Helps Charlottesville Immigrant Community

September 15, 2013

A new event in Albemarle County aims to help the immigrant community in Central Virginia.

The inaugural Hispanic Health fair was held Sunday at the Church of the Incarnation in Charlottesville.

With the help of the organization Sin Barreras, which translates to Without Barriers, members of the Hispanic community were able to get help from different agencies around the Commonwealth.

Members of the health department, social services, Wells Fargo Bank and the Cancer Center at UVa came out to the event.

“We want to be the liaison between the community and the agencies, so this way our immigrant community is not afraid to go to the agencies and they can come here and get the knowledge of what is out there for them,” says Adriana Haynes, a member of Sin Barreras.

Sin Barreras wants the immigrant community to be aware of all of the programs that are available to them.
