It has been more than two months since the Virginia football team has won a game and more than ten years since the Cavaliers have beaten Virginia Tech in the Commonwealth Cup.
Both of those streaks were extended Saturday, as Virginia Tech topped UVa 16-6 at Scott Stadium.
The Hokies and Cavaliers traded field goals to start the game, and were tied 6-6 early in the second quarter. From there, Virginia Tech added another field goal to take a 9-6 lead. Just before halftime, Trey Edmunds scored a 26 yard touchdown on a short pass from Logan Thomas to make it 16-6 at the break. Both teams failed to score in the second half, as the Hokies came away with a 16-6 win.
Kevin Parks rushed for 105 yards on 17 carries, to surpass the 1,000 yard mark for the season. Parks becomes the first UVa running back to exceed that mark since 2004.
David Watford completed 13-of-23 passes for 122 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. Greyson Lambert finished 4-for-16 for 54 yards and one interception.
The Cavaliers finish the season 2-10 overall and 0-8 in the ACC. They have lost 18 of their last 22 games overall, and used the same recipe that has plagued them throughout. Tight end Jake McGee led the 'Hoos in receiving, with 4 catches and 65 yards.
The Hokies improve to 8-4 with a 5-3 record in the ACC. Because Duke beat North Carolina earlier on Saturday to clinch the Coastal Division, the Hokies knew they would not have a chance at a division title. Duke and Florida State will meet in the upcoming ACC Championship game.
