The holidays are just around the corner and that means many people will probably be hitting the road to visit family. During this holiday season, the prices at the pump look like they are going to be more wallet-friendly than those of the summer.
The national average for a gallon of regular gas sits at $3.44 and it's even cheaper in the Commonwealth. Virginia gas prices are averaging down six cents from last week at $3.27 a gallon.
People who get their gas in Charlottesville save another four cents. Prices there average $3.23 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline.
AAA expects gas prices to continue to drop through Thanksgiving. By Christmas and New Years, analysts think the national average could be as low as $3.10 a gallon.
Gas prices are going down because the industry made the switch to winter-grade fuel. Also demand typically goes down during the winter months.
