The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries reports a man was accidentally shot in the face in a turkey hunting accident in Fluvanna County.
The accident occurred around 7:50am on Saturday near West River Road in Fluvanna. According to Spokesman Ron Messina, a hunter mistook another man in his hunting party for a turkey and shot him as he stood up and turned.
The victim was struck in the face and on the right side of his body with pellets from a 12-gage shotgun.
The shooter drove the victim to the Scottsville Rescue Squad. From there he was transported him to the University of Virginia Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.
Both men were wearing camouflage clothing.
Currently no charges have been filed.
