Hunters Furious After Dog Found Dead

November 20, 2012

A group of hunters in Scottsville are furious over the death of one of their hunting beagles named Bob.

"We try to get along with everybody and it's not right to shoot a dog for no reason," said Glen Spradlin, a hunter who was with the group Monday night.

Michael Perry Mullins has been charged with felony larceny of a pet. Mullins is a resident on Eyeland Drive, near property the group of hunters has leased for decades to hunt on. Spradlin, and the dog's owner, Eddie Spencer say the tracking device on the beagle's collar died. They went to the last place they were getting a signal, which was the home of Mullins.

"I've had dogs ever since I was about seven years old and it's hard to lose them," said Spencer.

There is also a financial loss. Hunting dogs cost upwards of two thousand dollars each and the tracking collars run from one hundred to three hundred dollars. Mullins is also facing charges for tampering with the tracking collar on the deceased dog.

Spencer and the rest of the group hope this arrest will make the property safer for the rest of their dogs.

"We are hoping to get the word out that it is illegal to shoot our hunting dogs and it's illegal to take the tracking collars off the dogs," Spencer said.
