Some of the nation's top women in law enforcement are meeting this week in Albemarle County.
The International Association of Chiefs of Police held the inaugural Women in Law Enforcement Conference at the Boar's Head Inn.
Women only make up less than 15 percent of the association, which has tens of thousands of members.
The inaugural conference addresses the challenges women face ni the field, and also how they can plan a career to get to the top.
"Particularly the younger women in the room have an opportunity to speak to the colonels and the majors and the high-ranking officials in these big departments and hopefully establish that mentor relationship," said Tim Longo, Charlottesville's police chief who served as a panelist at the conference.
Longo said he hopes the conference will spread to other areas around the country and become an annual event.
