The Jefferson Area Board of Aging (JABA) is holding a canned food drive to help local, low-income older adults.
The fourth annual "Soup for Seniors" runs from January 2nd through the 21st and aims to collect canned food products
“Hunger never takes a holiday,” says JABA’s Volunteer Service Coordinator Robi Keys. “And, winter weather can make getting to the store close to impossible for low-income seniors who are homebound or who have trouble getting around. A shelf stocked with nutritious ready-to-serve canned or packaged foods can make a life-saving difference for these folks.”
JABA says they especially need canned meat products such as tuna or stew, pasta sauces, no-sugar added fruits, and lower salt soups and vegetables.
Donations can be made at specially marked collection boxes located at the following locations:
- JABA, 674 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville
- Care Advantage Plus
- Branchlands
- The Colonnades
- The Independence
- Jefferson Heights
- Martha Jefferson House
- Park View
- The Senior Center, Inc.
- Twice Is Nice
- Westminster-Canterbury
- Woods Edge
- Walmart Distribution Center in Zions Crossroads
All donations go to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank’s Charlottesville branch that supports the Food Bag program.
