One of the James River ferries that are used to link Jamestown and Surry County is headed back into service.
The Virginia Department of Transportation says the Pocahontas will be up and running next Wednesday. It had been pulled from the fleet on Nov. 28 for routine maintenance and repairs.
The Daily Press of Newport News reports that during that process, crews also installed power packs in the main engines to reduce emissions.
The Jamestown-Scotland Ferry service uses three vessels to ferry vehicles across that section of the James. When all three ferries are in service, approximately 120 vehicles per hour are carried across the river.
