May 1, 2013
The Junior League of Charlottesville honored local volunteer organizations for their service to the community in the form of grants at a celebration on May 1.
The League also gave the 2013 Emily Couric Advocacy Award to the voice of the Cavaliers, Dave Koehn, who is an avid volunteer with Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
"It's been so enriching over my life, and the fact that I can help a youngster as well, and forge that relationship." said Koehn about why he does it. "its doesn't feel like volunteer 'work' (emphasis his) so to speak, it feels more like an opportunity to channel your inner child."
This is the third year for the Junior League's Community Celebration.
