University of Virginia students, faculty members, and Charlottesville residents packed into the auditorium at Darden Business School to discuss the Senate Faculty Committee's meeting with the UVa Board of Visitors. More than 800 people were on hand for the meeting, with hundreds moved to an over-flow room.
During the meeting, the full Senate Faculty Committee approved the resolution the group's executive committee passed last week.
50 members at the meeting were in favor of the vote. 18 proxy votes were also in favor, two were against and 1 person abstained.
In the resolution the executive committee states that they support President Sullivan and have a "lack of confidence" for the Board of Visitors.
The University's Provost John Simon spoke out for the first time at the meeting. "I find myself at a moment when the future of the University is at risk and what our political leadership value in the university is no longer clear," said Simon.
UVa professor George Bloom said, "We feel that the Board of Visitors has lost the faith of the faculty It's hard to imagine how a governing body can govern a university when the faculty has lost faith in that governing body."
The Senate Faculty Committee will meet with the Board of Visitors at 9am Monday.
