MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - The brother of a northern Virginia man on trial for capital murder is suing to get their mother's ashes, which he says were being kept in a storage locker.
The lawsuit in Prince William County is the latest twist in the case against Joaquin Rams, who is in jail awaiting trial in the death last year of his 15-month-old son, Prince Rams.
Joseph Velez of West Palm Beach, Fla., filed the suit last month against his brother, seeking possession of the ashes, family photos and other personal effects.
Their mother, Alma Collins, died in 2008 and police at the time ruled it a suicide. Velez has long disputed his mother committed suicide, and authorities are reviewing the case in light of Prince's death.
