The AIDS/HIV Services Group in Charlottesville held its first ever open house to welcome the local community. They're also recognizing World AIDS Day.
The group was started in Charlottesville 26 years ago -- one year before the first World AIDS Day. The group says it's still reaching out to the community providing HIV services and group discussions.
"It's really amazing to say that most of us living with HIV can live long, healthy lives. It is a relatively new disease, so the studies out there are keeping pace with us, who are the long-term survivors," said ASG executive director Peter DeMartino.
Those in attendance this after also listened to some reading of stories about AIDS survivors.
