The University of Virginia canceled classes just before 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night, to the pleasure of many students.
"It's so nice knowing I can put off homework for another night and enjoy myself," said student Ross Harding, who was out and about on The Corner.
Across town at McGrady's Irish Pub, a crowd gathered to celebrate the snow day.
"We had a heads up that we might still get quite a few patrons even with the snow," said general manager Ira Lamping.
Even though they canceled their deejay for the night, Lamping said there was a strong Wednesday night crowd despite the weather.
Many customers say they would rather be out and about in the snow than stuck indoors.
Timothy Vassi headed to McGrady's with a group of friends.
"We all drive Jeeps and are making the best of the worst," he said.
The pub adjusted its staff to only include people willing to drive in the weather and those who live nearby.
Lamping said he is a little concerned about serving customers on Thursday as the city deals with the aftermath of the storm.
"We're going to at least get through the dinner rush and see how things go from there," he said.
