One local church group is hoping to be a positive influence on children in the community through an upcoming concert series.

The free event is called Saturday Night Live and will feature a variety of local artists and performers like Shad Gill, and the Walk by Faith Band.

The Young Adult Ministry from the Mount Zion First African Baptist Church in Charlottesville hopes to bring the local youth together with the concert series.

“Last year we concentrated a lot on Christian rap,” says Janelle Cockrell, member of the Young Adult Ministry. “This year we have that as well as a Christian Go-Go band from the DC area as well as gospel singing and dancing.”

“Hopefully we will have a little bit of something for everyone.”

There are three concerts in the series. The first one takes place on Saturday, June 28th at the Mount Zion First African Baptist Church.

The concert is open to the public and free. The second and third concerts take place on July 26th and August 23rd. All of them begin at 5PM.
