After an Oklahoma dentist allegedly put thousands of his patients at risk of for hepatitis and HIV, some people might be concerned about going to their hometown dentist.
We talked to a local dentist at Aesthetic Dentistry of Charlottesville to find out exactly how a dentist office should be maintained and cleaned.
They said that after any instruments are used, they go through an intense cleaning and sterilization process. The cleaning machines are also tested once a week to ensure they are working properly.
Dr. Anita Neel, General Dentist at Aesthetic Dentistry of Charlottesville, said not to let one public scare keep you away from your regular visits. An overwhelming number of dentists do the right thing, unlike Dr. Harrington from Oklahoma.
Dr. Neel said, "I do want to try and help ease the mind of many patients for my office here in Charlottesville and many of the other offices here in Charlottesville. We do stay on top of our OSHA rules and guidelines and we want to make sure it's a clean and sterile environment for out patients."
Dr. Neel also said the staff at Aesthetic Dentistry of Charlottesville are required to stay up to date with all of the federal cleaning requirements by attending yearly trainings.
