The League of Women Voters of Charlottesville held their annual legislative luncheon at the Boar's Head Inn on Friday. Local state leaders discussed some issues and challenges ahead in 2013.
"If we elect people and never pay attention to what they are doing or what they are facing, then you live in a society you do not mold," said the group's president, Kerin Yates.
Local state leaders say hearing from voters is critical to decision making.
"People elect me to find out as much as I can, to learn as much as I can and make solid judgments," said State Senator Creigh Deeds, a Democrat from the 25th district.
"We often hear about education, transportation and a lot of key issues that are on their minds and it's critical to how we do our jobs," said Delegate David Toscano, a Democrat from the 57th district.
Lawmakers also spoke about the bills they plan to introduce in the upcoming General Assembly session.
Delegate Rob Bell, a Republican from the 58th district, says he has a bill this year that will talk about financial abuse of the mentally incapacitated.
