One local political group is giving a nod to the Bill of Rights and paying respect to the centuries-old document.
Members of the Jefferson Area Libertarians read the Bill of Rights Sunday on its 222nd birthday. The reading was followed by a discussion led by the group.
According the group, the government has been flipped upside down.
They claim Americans are now serving the government, instead of the government serving Americans.
"In a lot of cases the state is now lording over the individual," said John Munchmeyer, chairman of the Jefferson Area Libertarians. "It doesn't matter if it's a democracy or a king or anything, tyranny is tyranny."
The Libertarians say their goal is to find amendments that could help restore the original framework of the constitution.
