The Creciendo Juntos Organization held a mental health first aid workshop on Thursday, aimed at helping people assist someone having a mental health-related crisis.
Attendees learned risk factors and warning signs, and strategies to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
They say the key is also knowing when it's appropriate to help.
“The program is teaching people, fighting stigma, and teaching people about mental health issues, how to recognize some signs and symptoms, not to diagnose but then how to be helpful to folks who have mental health issues and connect them with resources, give them information, so it's an educational course for the community at all levels,” said Director of Quality Improvement Jane Lewis with Region Ten.
Attendees also learned where they can turn for more information about how to help people with mental illness.
