The warmer weather brings out the pool lover in all of us.
Memorial day is the opening weekend for pools all around Charlottesville.
This Saturday is the opening day for Onesty Family Aquatic Center. Memorial Day weekend is one of their biggest weekends to open, and they're expecting a pretty large crowd. Of course this weekend is often spent in a pool for many, and pool owners have been prepping to get ready for summer.
May is one of the biggest months at Aqua Clean Pool Service. Jackie Pimentel, the vice president, has had her employees putting in 60 hour weeks to help owners get ready for the holiday weekend. People have been getting their water tested, making sure their chlorine levels are good, and cleaning their pools to prepare for swimmers.
Pool prep is in its final stages at Washington Park and Onesty Family Aquatic. These locations have kept busy to get ready for the weekend.
"Our pool manager Dagne and her fine assistant Jenna here have been working with staff to get the pools ready, water levels correct, ph balance correct, chlorine levels," stated Phillip Seay, the Aquatics Director for the city of Charlottesville.
The lifeguards are all ready to get back to their summer work, and the pools will open at 10am. The long cold winter has many of us ready to bring out the bathing suit.
"Opening weekend is always a big weekend, folks come here for an experience the bottom line, we just want to make sure they have a positive experience and enjoy it. Hopefully the weather will cooperate," explains Seay,
After your own pool is ready to go, it’s important to keep regular maintenance by keeping the filter clean and testing the chemical levels often. Aqua Clean Pool Service will test your water for free.
Pools can be a dangerous place. There are many ways to keep young children and pets safe. You can get alarms for your pool, make sure its covered whenever you're not using it, and teach your children to swim; but the most safe? Just watching your kids and keeping everyone within your sight. That can be the best preventative measure.
Both Onesty Family Aquatic Center and Washington Park will open from 10 A.M. through 8 P.M for the weekend. Prices are $6 for adults if you live in the county ($4 child) and $11 for non-county residents ($8 child).
