Local Priest Talks About Pope's Resignation

This is the first time in nearly 600 years that a Pope has resigned. And his resignation has come as a surprise for a lot of people, especially in the catholic church.

After hearing the Pope's big decision to step down, Father Joseph Scordo from St. Thomas Aquinas spoke about the Pope's resignation.

"He himself has recognized his declining strength and vigor and he himself also said that he doesn't think that he's physically up to the demands of the papacy and there are great demands," says Father Scordo. "It came as a surprise for all of us."

The Pope is 85-years-old and believes his time as pope has come to an end.

After his resignation, he plans to devote himself to a life of reflection and prayer.
