The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors' Bureau wants you to "Stay Local, Play Local."
That motto is the theme of this summer's awareness campaign put on by the CACVB each year. The goal is to get locals to experience the free and low-cost activities in the area.
The campaign highlights destinations like Monticello and the downtown areas of Crozet and Scottsville.
"Our office is responsible for marketing tourism outside the area to people in D.C. and across the East Coast and across the country," said John Freeman, eMarketing specialist for CACVB. "We find that so many tourist attractions those people like, our locals should enjoy as well."
The visitors' bureau said it makes practical and economic sense to check out with Central Virginia has to offer.
"We try to convince people in the area to visit our local attractions," Freeman said. "Why would you want to go to Washington, D.C., for presidential history when you have three presidential homes right here in your own backyard?"
Every Thursday on CBS19, you can catch a feature called "My Backyard Vacation" that will highlight some of the attractions you can find in and around Charlottesville.
