Louisa Co. Man Convicted of Rape in Albemarle Co.

UPDATED: 6:30PM January 9, 2014

Henry Lee Jasper, 33, was found guilty of rape and abduction with intent to defile by a jury on Thursday.

It was the second day for the trial and a verdict was reached in less than an hour after witness testimony and arguments from both sides.

Before the verdict was read, Judge Cheryl Higgins asked that no one make any outburst, but that didn't stop Jasper from yelling, “You're dead b**** when my cousin gets home...you better watch your back!” Words all directed towards the victim.

This scared the 24-year-old victim to the point where she almost didn't testify during the sentencing hearing, but later took the stand saying that her eyes were open to the evil people who are out there in the world.

Jasper was arrested back in April of 2013 following an incident where he forced his way into the victim's apartment and raped her at knifepoint.

On Thursday a jury found Jasper guilty and asked for two life sentences.

“I'm very pleased,” says Commonwealth’s Attorney Denise Lunsford. “Two life sentences and the fine, it was the maximum the jury could've given and it's absolutely appropriate.”

This wasn’t the first time Jasper was convicted of a sexual assault. Back in 1999 he spent time in prison after he sexually assaulted a minor.

“With his previous convictions, in light of what happened in this case was absolutely horrific,” says Lunsford. “The fact that she (the victim) is a strong a person that she is, able to keep her head in a time of unspeakable events, is a testament to her strength, but also what resulted in her not getting hurt in this matter anymore than she was.”

Her family is happy with the court's decision and spoke to us after the trial off camera to protect their identity saying:

“On behalf of our daughter and our entire family, we wish to thank the Albemarle County Police Department and Commonwealth’s Attorney for their professionalism, diligence and heartfelt concern they exhibited during the investigation and prosecution.”
